Wargaming has announced that it will hold a $300,000 World of Tanks competition just two days before Christmas, because if there is something that people love doing at Christmas it is going to Moscow to watch World of Tanks.
The tournament in question is the annual Wargaming.net League Final Battle, the last competition in the competitive year that serves as one of a handful of international events throughout the year. Teams from Europe, China, North America, CIS and APAC will compete at the event that is being held in Moscow.
The first stage will kick off on December 13th, with the playoff stage running until December 17th. Then on December 23rd the teams who made it through this first stage will play the final matches at WargamingFest, a celebration of all things Wargaming, which is being held at the massive Moscow Expocenter.
European teams Kazna Kru, DiNG, and Oops will be at the event, with Elevate and Top Tier Gaming joining them from North America. YaTo RSGaming and Seven Pirates will come over from APAC while YiNuo Gaming and Steel Man will come from China. Rounding out the competition is the three teams playing on home turf; Tornado Energy, Rush, and Unique.
All of these teams have qualified for the even by topping their regional competitions. This will be the first time in quite a while that they have played outside of their region, so the competition should be quite unpredictable.
The winning team will walk away with $150,000 while second will take home a still respectable $75,000. Third and fourth will take home $27,500 each and finally those in fifth to eighth place will walk away with $5,000 each.
Holding the event so close to the holidays is certainly a strange choice, but it could play into Wargaming’s hands. There will be no other major esports events taking place around this time, and that could give them some big viewing figures. It certainly will be an interesting one to watch.
