Ryan Reynolds will be voicing Pikachu in the upcoming ‘Detective Pikachu’ movie.

The Detective Pikachu movie has finally cast its Pikachu in the form of Ryan Reynolds, which is a fun choice but I still wish they had gone with Danny DeVito.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds will voice the “titular detective” in the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie.

In case you are wondering, this Detective Pikachu movie is inspired by the Great Detective Pikachu game on the 3DS from 2016.

This deviated from the classic Pokémon game setup and was more of an adventure game with obvious detective leanings. It also had a variant of Pikachu that could talk.

While having Ash’s Pikachu talk has a habit of melting the brains of fans, the Detective Pikachu variant was more warmly accepted, especially on account of its cuter interpretation of Sherlock Holmes.

The result of this was that fans in the West ended up wanting Danny DeVito to voice Pikachu but he sadly declined the honor.

How Reynolds will tackle Pikachu will be interesting though. He is a shrewd and witty individual, which definitely works well with the Detective Pikachu character from the game.

Apparently, the role will also involve some motion capture, so that will be interesting to see.

Shooting for the Detective Pikachu movie starts next year in London and I hope that means the film will include some kind of Baker Street address, as that would be rather lovely.
